My good friends Snakefist are honestly the best live band I've seen in LA. I've been wanting to make a live video for them since the first time saw them them, then they asked me to come to the Viper Room one night to shoot their set along with my buddies Jonathan Brock and Evan Petruzzi and also edit it. This set at the Viper turned out to be the best Snakefist show I've ever seen. Go see them.
In April of 2000, Elliott Smith released his album Figure 8. The cover pictured him in front of a mural at Solutions! Audio/Video Repair in Los Angeles' Silver Lake neighborhood. Smith died in 2003 and the mural has become as a quasi-memorial to the singer-songwriter. Ever since his death people have been taking photos of the wall. The mural has continuously changed in the past 13 years and these photos serve as a visual timeline.
I made this video as a bit of a sequel to this video I made of people in front of a pair of wings at Angel City Brewery in downtown LA. While I was piecing together photos for this video, I noticed the graffiti behind some of the photos was changing. I realized that I could sequence the photos in a way that it would show how the wall has changed over time. I found it pretty amazing how people were putting together this timeline without even knowing it.
The trilogy is complete. 2015 Part 3 is here. This is some of the stuff I got on video from August and December. I saw some bands, lived in San Francisco, traveled, worked on more TV, did some solid camping and grew closer to a lot of my friends.
