Haedong Yong-gung Temple

October 29, 2013 by Jonathan Kramer

Famous for its seafood, beaches and port, Busan is known throughout Korea as the city that lives with the ocean. Busan's most renown temple, Haedong Yong-gung Temple, is just as connected to the ocean as it is Buddhism. But it isn't just sitting across the street from to some lazy beach; it's perched upon craggy rocks as waves constantly roll in and smash against them. It isn't just one building, it's multiple modest buildings with golden and stone statues scattered about, all connected by stairways strung through bamboo thickets. This Buddhist temple does not want you to forget that you're in Asia. And as cliche and cheezy-as-hell as it sounds, you'll never forget Haedong Yong-gung Temple.
